A New Season

“If you’re good enough to be successful, be successful now.” – Andy Lock, father of Mizzou’s true freshman quarterback Drew Lock

For years I’ve studied motivational, inspirational, and instructional materials to improve myself. Truth be told, I’ve probably done too much studying and not enough “doing.” Lou Imbriano almost always encourages his fans and followers to “Go Do!” He’s right. At some point, you must do something with what you’ve learned or it’s nothing but entertainment.

Is my website completed and perfectly done? Nope. Does it matter? Not really. If I touch your heart and you come to believe I can help you reach your full potential, improve your business, or be of service, you’ll find a way to contact me. I have faith if we are meant to work together, it will happen.

My dream is to make a difference and serve God. At the end of my life, I want to know that I mattered. Living a small life, which is what I’ve been doing, is not the path that will allow me to be the man God made me to be. It’s time for me to get serious about life.

You have to live intentionally. Be BOLD! Declare your expectations. Pierce the atmosphere with your passion and commit your heart and soul to achieving your dreams. This blog entry is my declaration that I am going to be successful and I’m starting today!

How can I be of service to you? I offer the following marketing services:

·        blogging

·        photography

·        content development

·        social media management

·        lead generation services

·        community building

·        copywriting

·        newsletters

·        email database development

·        strategic marketing consulting

·        company culture training

·        team-building

·        customer service training

·        advertising reviews and assessments

What Makes You Stand Out?

When was the last time you just went for it? You know, just threw caution to the wind and chased a dream, an idea, a passion, a hunch. Our culture rewards those who do, but simultaneously discourages it. Think about this…if you ask a classroom of Kindergartners who is an artist, they will all raise their hands. Fast forward to 6th grade, and ask the same class of kids the same question and only a handful will raise their hands. Jump ahead to their Senior Year and perhaps only one will self-identify as an artist. Why does this happen? Because we are still stuck in the industrial revolution mindset where schools are for creating good little worker drones who are afraid to get the wrong answer or break free from the ranks. But for those who do, for those for whom the phrase “Carpe Diem” is more than a silly Latin version of “Just Do It,” we richly reward them when they strike mental gold.

This weekend, a 21 year old man took the golf world by storm. Jordan Spieth entered the record books as the most recent champion of The Masters. That’s impressive in itself, but even more impressive is the fact that he lead from the very start of this 4 day tournament. Imagine going to bed every night knowing the very best professionals in your industry were going to come gunning for you each day. That shouldn’t be hard, because they are. So what did Spieth do? He took his game to another level, a level never reached by another player when he was at 19 under par during the final round of competition. Ultimately he finished at -18, which tied him for the best score ever at The Masters! While I am not a huge golf fan, what I saw from this young man was simply an attitude of just going for it!

So how does this apply to the real world of marketing?

I’m a believer in the marketing philosophy that creating ads that look like other ads is a waste of time. If you could switch out your name, logo and contact info for that of any of your competitors, you are going about it wrong and wasting your resources. So what is the answer? You’re going to need to figure out what you do better than anyone else, what makes you stand out from the crowd, and what resonates with the primary audience you hope to attract. You can be anything you want, but if your audience doesn’t want to buy it, you’re in big trouble. You must figure out what it is you want to be known for, create a strategy to you believe will help you achieve it, and simply go for it!

By the way, I also want to praise my new friend Olga Morris. She is following a dream and going for it in her own way. It’s an inspirational story of slowing down and focusing on what is most important. I’m pretty certain she will find out soon enough that slowing down will actually allow her to do more without it becoming overwhelming. Check out her new blog “Slowing Down on Speed Drive.” I’ll have a lot more to share about this topic in the near future.

Have a great week, friends!

The Growth Formula

Easter is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. As a Christian, it’s the most special day of the year. Our Lord defeated death and gave us life. He sacrificed Himself so that we might live abundantly. For this, I am eternally grateful.

Abundant life. Life is about growth. In the Christian faith, it is about growing to become more like Jesus. In the business world, growth is about improving your business, expanding your market share, and generating more profits. There is a way things work in all that we do. It’s a simple formula, but not an easy one.

  • Plant
  • Cultivate
  • Harvest

  • There are innumerable factors that can affect this simple formula, both good and bad. In the business world, marketing is the center point from which to start. It truly influences almost every facet of your business when done well. How do you know if it’s being done well? Growth.

The same is true for your faith. Jesus Christ is the center point for your spiritual life. The proof of your growth in this area is producing fruit.
    (see Matthew 7:15-20).

On this Resurrection Sunday, I wish you the peace, hope, and joy of my Savior, Jesus Christ. He is Risen!

    Making Good Decisions

I recently learned an incredibly valuable lesson courtesy of Darren Hardy, publisher of Success Magazine. He’s someone I’ve recently come to admire and from whom I look forward to learning many future lessons. This particular example resonated so powerfully with me that I knew it had to be the topic of my first blog entry.

In the past, I’ve had people tell me the key to success was “Fake it until you make it. Make decisions quickly and deal with the consequences later.” This always bothered me. In my soul, I knew it wasn’t the right path and it sure wasn’t Biblical. Something I’ve learned along the way, most likely from reading Seth Godin’s blog, is that human nature defaults to defense; to seek security. Those who go on to be successful learn to be emotionally intelligent and over-ride this instinct in order to make an informed decision.

Now…to the lesson. It’s a simple question really. Ready? Pick one of the following options:

  • Obtain $3 Million in cash today
  • Obtain the grand total of doubling a penny each day for a month. Start with a penny and double it. Each day after that, double the current amount. At the end of 30 days, collect that amount.

  • So which did you choose? Which one did you immediately feel most comfortable choosing? It’s human nature to want to take the guaranteed $3 Million. However, those with the emotional intelligence to quell their desire for instant gratification will be rewarded handsomely with a sum totaling more than $10 Million! Now that is a GOOD DECISION!

The Moral of today’s lesson is to be emotionally intelligent in your decision making. Don’t let the stress of the situation dictate your response. Master your emotions and master your decisions. And most importantly, remember to rely on God!
